We recently produced the printed materials for a campaign being run by a Pound a Bottle:

A peaceful protest was held opposite Downing Street, sponsored by Clink! Wines Ltd and Le Beast Vineyard:

The protest culminated in the delivery of a petition and letter to Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Chancellor Alistair Darling:
GORDON BROWN, PRIME MINISTER
ALISTAIR DARLING, CHANCELLOR
20th March 2009
We, as Responsible Adults of the United Kingdom, believe that we should be able to live a life free to choose and quietly enjoy our favourite wines with a minimum of Government taxation. We petition that duty on wine reduced from £1.5 7 a bottle and set indefinitely at One Pound A Bottle!
The Silent Majority of our great country, speaks out to the Government to say:
They should prosecute the lawbreakers, but do not persecute us because of the minority who inappropriately consume alcohol. The Government takes in excess of £4 billion a year from the wine business (1.7 bill bottles * £1.57 duty + VAT at retail) – We hereby petition that this amount should be reduced to ONE POUND PER BOTTLE for not less than five years. The tax collected should used to inspire cultural change that encourages the consumption of alcoholic beverages in moderation, and appropriately tackles the law breakers.
History informs us that excessive taxation and prohibition only further encourages lawbreaking. We have the right to be able to live free of ’stealth taxation’ that eats away at our quality of life and the simple pleasures that we can still enjoy. The long arm of the Government should not reach into our kitchens, our empty purses and onto our dining room tables, taking, under the guise of discouraging abuse.
